Bogor (Indonesia), 10-11 Jan 2023 – The CoE, in collaboration with UNODC Indonesia (POIDN), delivered a workshop in Indonesia on the ICCS roadmap and use to demonstrate practical application of the ICCS and strengthen the capacities of the operational staff of the National Statistics Office, Statistics Indonesia – Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) and national institutions producing statistics in the crime and criminal justice sector.
The workshop was opened by Collie Brown, Country Manager, UNODC Indonesia, Dodot Adikoeswanto, Director, Directorate General of Corrections Indonesia and Seong Jae Shin, Research Officer, CoE. Participants included technical experts of relevant national agencies: BPS, Supreme Court, National Police, Attorney General, Directorate General of Corrections, Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas), Financial Transaction Report and Analysis Center and Universitas Indonesia.
The workshop was held over the course of two days, with presentations detailing ICCS use and structure followed by practical exercises, including news and crime mapping and disaggregating variable data collection.
A round table meeting was led by Martijn Kind, Statistician in UNODC Research and Trend Analysis Branch (RAB), to discuss guidelines and the next steps for Indonesia. In total, about 30 participants from relevant agencies attended the workshop. The meeting fulfilled its objective of bringing together different national agencies, encouraging engagement in the implementation process, and providing concrete examples and exercises to facilitate the national implementation process.
