The Center of Excellence builds partnerships with the UNDP Seoul Policy Centre

Daejeon (Republic of Korea), Virtual, 25 August 2021 - The UNDP Seoul Policy Centre for Knowledge Exchange through SDG Partnerships (UNDP SPC) was established in 2011 to facilitate knowledge exchange in the following three areas: 1) Governance (Transparency & Accountability; Sexual and Gender-based Violence); 2) Resilience (Forestry); and 3) Development Cooperation.

The meeting discussed corruption, gender-based violence (GBV) and wildlife trafficking, network and partnership building and further collaboration between the offices at advocacy, technical and strategic levels, including attending future trainings and events.

Given the common ground of GBV, the meeting raised two potential areas of collaboration:

1) UNDP SPC highlighted a webinar on sextortion in collaboration with UNDP HQ and UNODC to share experiences of the Korean National Police Agency to address sextortion by protecting and supporting victims.

2) The CoE highlighted the November 2020 e-learning course “Crime Statistics from a Gender Perspective” organized to inform the key concepts of crime and gender. A second course will be developed this year and may provide an opportunity for collaboration.

Given UNDP SPC work on resilience with a particular focus on forestry, UNDP SPC agreed to review relevant materials for measuring illicit flows of counterfeit tobacco products and wildlife trafficking to identify areas for collaboration and check data availability.

Regarding development cooperation, UNDP SPC agreed to share available partnerships to enable the CoE to expand its network and connect with Korean civil society.
