CoE Participates in the Technical Assessment Workshop on Enhancing Police Integrity and Accountability in the Philippines

Quezon City, the Philippines (Online), 7 November 2023 – The CoE delivered a virtual session at the Technical Assessment Workshop on Enhancing Police Integrity and Accountability in the Philippines co-organized by the UNODC and the Philippines National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) in Quezon City on 7-8 November. 

The objective of the workshop was to provide a platform for experts, practitioners, and stakeholders to address the critical concerns surrounding integrity, accountability, transparency, and trust in public institutions, with a special focus on national police forces. With this regard, the CoE delivered a presentation, highlighting the importance of CCJ data and statistics and national examples in the region.

 

Jisu Kim, Data Analysis Officer of the CoE, introduced UNODC approaches to enhance the quality and availability of Crime and Criminal Justice data and methodological tools developed, such as the International Classification of Crime for Statistical Purposes (ICCS), Manual on Victimization Surveys (CVS) and Corruption Surveys (CS) with relevant indicators of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). To exchange best practices in the region, the CoE invited Statistics Korea to share their experience in implementing the ICCS, which is the development of national crime classification. 

A total of 32 representatives (20 female, 12 male) from the NAPOLCOM and the Philippines National Police (PNP) participated in the workshop featured sessions and roundtable discussions to achieve the objective of the workshop and develop an action plan for 2024.

This workshop is a part of the “Strengthening Regional Cooperation and the Capacity of ASEAN Countries to Counter Corruption and Other Serious Crimes, 2020-2023” project, funded by the Republic of Korea. The project aims to support ASEAN countries implementing the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) and the United Nations Transnational Organized Crime Convention (UNTOC) while strengthening regional cooperation between countries.
